Kohunlich & Dzibanche Mayan Ruins

Explore two fascinating ancient Mayan sites in one day! You’ll visit the peaceful site of Dzibanche, known for its tall pyramids and temples that people are still permitted to climb. This was once a ruling city, already known for its gorgeous pottery, recent excavations have revealed tombs of the ruling families, with incredible jade offerings and inscriptions. After one and a half hours exploring its many wonders you’ll re board the air-conditioned bus and make the short journey to Dzibanche’s neighboring city, Kohunlich. This site is known for its unique 8-foot-tall stone masks that flank the steps of the Pyramid of the Sun, high temples, its genius engineering featuring a complex rain reservoir system, public centers, ball courts, and sprawling lush grounds. An hour and 50 minutes at Kohunlich and its time to leave this magical realm and head back to port. 2.5 hours from port to first site, 2 hour ride back to port from 2nd site. 8 hours in its entirety.

  • Guests are recommended to bring a hat, sunscreen, sunglasses, insect repellent, cash for additional purchases as well as wear flat, comfortable shoes.
  • The grounds of the ruins consist of uneven limestone and loose stones; guests should be extra cautious as not to slip or fall.
  • Guests are allowed to climb some ruins
  • Guests taking video in any format (video camera, cell phone, Tablet etc.) within the archaeological site will be charged government fee of approximately $8-$10 USD payable in cash at site.
  • No tripods and/or professional video cameras are allowed.
  • This tour is not recommended for guests with walking difficulties or in wheelchairs.
